The 2023 Major League Baseball season is in its second half. The standings are tight. In particular, the American League Wild Card race is getting very close. As of Sept. 23, the Tampa Bay Rays (76 wins, 51 losses) are in first place in the wild card race. They are followed by the Houston Astros (72-55), Seattle Mariners (71-55), and Toronto Blue Jays (70-56).
Seattle’s rise is the most eye-catching. They’ve won eight straight games to move into the third wild-card spot. On April 23, they beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 to complete an eight-game winning streak. They’ve won all of their games since April 16 against the Kansas City Royals. They swept Kansas City and the Houston Astros and won two straight over the White Sox.
If you broaden the scope a bit, it’s even better. In their last 19 games, they’re an incredible 16-3. Their winning percentage in that span is over .842. After a 6-3 win against the Boston Red Sox on April 3, they went on an eight-game winning streak until a 9-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on April 12. They then lost three in a row before reeling off another eight-game winning streak.
This reignited the American League West title fight. They’re currently in third place, but only one game behind the first-place Texas Rangers. They’re just a half-game behind second-place Houston. They’ve also climbed vertically in the wild card race, sitting in third place, the final playoff spot. Toronto, home of the “Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin, dropped to fourth place.
They have the potential to extend their winning streak. The outlook is bright as they continue to face teams at the bottom of the league. Seattle has a day off after a road game against the White Sox on April 24. They then play a three-game series at home against the Kansas City Royals and a three-game series at home against the Oakland Athletics. They then have a day off to prepare for a three-game series against the New York Mets and a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.온라인바카
For Toronto, which sits in third place in the American League East, Seattle’s surge adds another wild-card contender to the mix. They’ve been in the top two or three since the start of the second half, but a scary run by Seattle has slipped them to fourth. Their recent three-game winning streak hasn’t been bad, but Seattle’s rise has been too much and they’ve fallen below the castration cutoff.
Meanwhile, in the American League, the Baltimore Orioles (East), Minnesota Twins (Central), and Texas Rangers (West) are atop their divisions. In the National League, the Atlanta Braves (East), Milwaukee Brewers (Central), and Los Angeles Dodgers (West) are the favorites to win the division. In the National League Wild Card race, the Philadelphia Phillies are in first place, while the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks are tied for second. The Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, and Miami Marlins are trailing by a half-game and a game, respectively.
