A number of managers have turned down the Tottenham job, but acting manager Ryan Mason has other ideas.
The Tottenham job has been without a manager for two months now. Since the sacking of Antonio Conte in March, Spurs have struggled to find a permanent manager and have yet to identify a candidate.
Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi and several other high-profile managers have been linked with the job, but have all rejected Tottenham for various reasons and left the running.
More recently, managers outside of Europe’s top five leagues have also turned down the job.
Feyenoord boss Arne Slott had been touted as a possible candidate for the Spurs job after it was reported that he was positive about becoming the club’s next manager, but the club later announced that Slott had signed a new contract with Feyenoord at an increased salary. Celtic boss Enzi Postecoglou, who was also considered a candidate, turned down the job.
In the meantime, Mason has suggested that the spate of managerial rejections reported in the media may not be true.
“Mason laughed bitterly when asked about the stories of managers turning down Tottenham,” the British outlet Football London reported on July 27.
According to the report, Mason sided with Spurs by giving his own thoughts on the recent media reports of rejections.
He said: “These are all fictional stories. I don’t know who it was because I don’t read the press, but they may not know they’re being mentioned. Managers know that Tottenham is a big club and they know that it’s a very positive thing to have their name associated with Tottenham,” he said, noting that the reports of rejections may not be true.
“Every manager knows that Tottenham is a big club. The players know it, the fans know it. We will remain a big club and we will be an attractive club for whoever is in charge next season. I’m sure the players will want to come to Tottenham,” he said, expressing his affection for the club he played for as a player and coach.
As for the club’s recent struggles, Mason blames too many changes in style and a lack of direction for the club’s recent struggles.
Indeed, Tottenham have struggled to manage the team over the past three seasons with a number of high-profile managerial changes, with Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte failing to complete a full season after being appointed.
“It is clear that in the last two or three years we have played two or three different styles of football. I don’t think it was good for the players and the fans,” he said. “It was hard for anyone to settle down, and we lost players and staff. It’s had a huge impact on us moving forward,” he said, explaining that the change caused by frequent coaching changes has been toxic.
Meanwhile, he emphasized the importance of moving forward. “Moving forward is really important and you can see that in the Premier League and other leagues. I want people to be clear about who Tottenham are,” he said, vowing to rebuild the team.메이저사이트
Some have suggested that Mason may be using different rhetoric to convey his genuine commitment to Spurs and his desire to take the reins, having emphasized several times since his appointment as acting manager in April that he was ready for the job. It’s a sign that he’s as sincere about Spurs as he is about himself.
Fans will be disappointed if Tottenham, which has struggled to hire a manager and hasn’t made plans for next season, fails to fulfill Mason’s promise.
