‘Gaussman 8-run collapse’ One-two punch 15 runs in two days, TOR 2-9 HOU

Even the second starter I believed in collapsed.

The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a crushing defeat in their first match of the season against the defending champion Houston Astros.

In an away game held at Minute Maid Park on the 18th (hereinafter Korean time), Toronto showed a difficult situation in which starter Kevin Gaussman gave up 7 points only in the first inning, and eventually fell to Houston 2-9.

Gaussman allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 ⅔ innings and gave up 8 runs (7 earned runs). He was hit by two homers, and the catcher’s hit overlapped. In four games of the season, 1 win and 2 losses, the average ERA soared from 1.35 to 3.65.메이저사이트

The previous day, against the Tampa Bay Race, 1st starter Alec Manoa suffered a defeat with 9 hits and 7 runs in 4⅔innings, and even Gaussman, 2nd starter, collapsed that day. The one-two punch gave up 15 runs over 9⅓ total innings over two days.

On the other hand, Houston starter Cristian Javier finished 5 innings with 3 hits and 1 run, and became the winning pitcher. Season 2 wins, ERA 3.68.

Toronto maintained 3rd place in the AL East with 10 wins and 7 losses, while Houston tied for 3rd place in the AL West with 8 wins and 9 losses.

In the bottom of the first inning, Gaussman was a batting ball pitcher. Gaussman, who was driven to first and second base by allowing a left-handed hit to leader Mauricio Dubon and a walk to Jordan Alvarez after one out, gave up two runs to Jose Abreu in the middle of the month. A 91-mile fastball thrown from one ball entered the high course, and a well-hit ball hit the center fence.

Then, Kyle Tucker allowed a walk, and Jeremy Pena got on base with catcher’s obstruction, and the bases were loaded with one out. During Pena’s swing, the bat touched the mitt held out by Toronto catcher Danny Jansen. An obstruction of hit is recorded as an error. Gaussman allowed Cory Jerks to hit a 94 mph fastball on the 5th pitch from 3B1S ball count toward his body, but it was slightly driven into the center and allowed a double that rolled to the left fence and again two runners homed.

He then threw a 93 mph outward fastball to Jake Myers, and hit a 3-pointer that went over the right fence into a line drive. The score quickly widened to 0-7.

While Toronto made up for a run with Matt Chapman’s solo home run in the top of the second inning, Gaussman gave up a solo home run to the Jerks in the bottom of the third inning to record the eighth run. The first pitch, 92 mph fastball, was driven right into the middle. In fact, the match was as if it had been decided in the beginning.

Gaussman signed a free agent contract for five years and $110 million in December 2021 and wore a Toronto uniform. Last year, his first season, he threw 192 innings in 31 games, posting a 12-10 record, an earned run average of 3.35, and 205 strikeouts, which was not enough to receive a special evaluation.

He threw well this season, but collapsed on this day when he met the strongest Houston. He threw 93 pitches, and his fastball velocity with 42 was up to 95.5 mph and an average of 93.4 mph, similar to his usual. His main weapon, the splitter, used 40 of them.
