The Toronto Blue Jays’ Hyun-jin Ryu will take the mound against the Boston Red Sox in the early morning hours of April 18.
Coming off four days of rest, Hyun-jin Ryu will pitch the final game of the three-game series against Boston. The Blue Jays are currently in a tight wild-card race with the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, but they lost their last four games against the Rangers. It will be interesting to see if Hyun-jin Ryu can keep their wild-card hopes alive with a win against Boston’s lineup for the first and last time this season.
Ryu made his first start against the Texas Rangers on April 13 and drew a lot of attention from baseball fans at home and abroad as he faced off against Max Scherzer. At the time, Ryu went six innings for the first time since returning from injury, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out five in his first quality start of the season. However, the Toronto offense was unable to capitalize, failing to score a single run in the six innings. The Toronto bats scored in the seventh and ninth innings, but were unable to overcome the three-run deficit. Despite the quality start, Ryu had to settle for a second straight victory, following his last outing against the Oakland Athletics on July 7.
Ryu’s next opponent is the Boston Red Sox of the American League East. Ryu is 2-2 with a 4.01 ERA in six career starts against Boston. Both of Ryu’s wins against Boston came in 2021. His first win against the Red Sox came in May 2021, when he tossed seven innings of four-hit ball and struck out seven to earn the victory, and his second came about two months later, when he tossed six innings of two-hit ball and struck out five. The Red Sox currently rank third in the majors in team batting average and second in the American League.스포츠토토
