Seeking first win back from injury, Hyun-jin Ryu strikes out 12 in first inning to shut out CLE trio

The “Korean Monster,” Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, of the Toronto Blue Jays, got off to a strong start on his way to his first win of the season.

The right-hander pitched a scoreless first inning against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday (Aug. 8) at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

The Toronto offense got on the board in the top of the first when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled, but George Springer struck out swinging to end the inning.

Ryu got off to a good start in the bottom of the first, getting leadoff hitter Stephen Kwan to ground out to first base. He then got Andres Jimenez to fly out to shortstop for two easy outs. He then got Jose Ramirez to ground out to the pitcher to end the inning. He finished with 12 pitches and was economical.온라인바카

Ryu reached 75 wins in the big leagues on May 27 last year against the Los Angeles Angels before surgery and rehabilitation halted his win total for the past year. In his major league debut against the Baltimore Orioles on May 2, he gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk in five innings. Tonight, he’ll be looking for his first win of the 2023 season and his first in 438 days against Cleveland.

In the top of the second inning, the teams are tied at 0-0 with the Toronto offense on the rise.
