“Thanks for the win, goodbye” chairman keeps promise…but ‘£100m’ core leaves

It looks like he’s leaving the team.

“West Ham United captain Declan Rice, 24, is leaving the club,” the BBC reported on Aug. 8 (KST). West Ham chairman David Sullivan intends to honor his promise to Rice.”

The Hammers defeated Fiorentina 2-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) final of the 2022-23 season at the Fortuna Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Aug. 8. Jared Bowen’s dramatic winner in stoppage time lifted West Ham’s first European trophy in 58 years.

The captain kept his promise. Speaking to the club’s official channel before the game, Rice said, “It would be the greatest achievement of my football career. I’m 100 percent sure of it,” he said, adding, “It’s in our hands. “It’s in our hands, it’s a chance for the players, the manager and everyone at West Ham to create a legacy that will be remembered forever. Rice’s full-time heroics in the middle of the park against Fiorentina secured the trophy for the Hammers.

He’s leaving the club after making history. Rice has recently been linked with big clubs in the English Premier League (PL), including Arsenal and Manchester United. He has also turned down a new contract with his current club, West Ham, adding fuel to the transfer rumors. In fact, there have been talks with the club. “West Ham have offered Rice a transfer and he has decided to leave the club,” Sullivan said directly.

No extension is expected. Rice has one year left on his contract with the Hammers, but has an option for a one-year extension. According to the BBC, “West Ham have the option to extend Rice’s contract until the summer of 2025. It is a chance to fetch a substantial transfer fee.”메이저사이트

However, the chairman stood by his words: “Rice has committed himself to West Ham this season. It would be unreasonable to ask for more,” he said. “I hope he joins a new club at the right time. West Ham will look for a replacement. West Ham cannot hold on to a player who decides to leave the club.”
