Toronto rallies for eighth-inning comeback win over Washington

The Toronto Blue Jays recorded a sweep of the Washington Nationals.

The Blue Jays swept the Nats, 7-0, at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Monday (May 31).

With the win, the Jays took the best-of-three series against the Nats, 73-61. They moved to within three games of the second wild-card spot in the American League.

Starter Chris Bassitt was outstanding. He pitched eight innings of three-hit ball with one walk and three strikeouts. He threw a whopping 110 pitches to improve to 13-7 on the season.

Bassitt’s outing allowed Toronto to rest its bullpen and save its strength for its upcoming six-game series in the Denver-Oakland West.

The offense responded to Bassett’s efforts. In the top of the first inning, Alejandro Kirk hit a two-run double to left-center field to put runners on the corners for a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, with runners on first and third, Santiago Espinal singled through the right side and Cavan Biggio drove in two more runs with a sacrifice fly.온라인바카

In the sixth, with runners on second and third, Ernie Clement and Espinal singled to bring in two more runs. In the seventh, Kirk’s sacrifice fly extended the lead again.

Kirk, who had been left out at home the day before, went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs to completely erase the previous day’s disappointment.

Washington starter Patrick Corbin suffered his 12th loss of the season, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
